Material as Inspiration

At Imagin, inspiration begins with material.

At Imagin, inspiration doesn’t arrive fully formed. It starts with material — the kind you can hold, feel, and watch change over time.

Brass, for us, is more than a starting point. It’s something we keep coming back to. There’s a warmth to it, a certain weight, a sense that it belongs somewhere permanent. It doesn’t just sit quietly in a design — it shapes it. And the longer it lives in a space, the better it gets, picking up subtle marks and depth that make each piece feel personal.

Then there’s alabaster. Almost the opposite in character, but just as compelling. No two pieces are ever the same — each one carries its own veining, its own history, formed slowly over thousands of years. When light passes through it, something shifts. It softens, glows, and reveals layers you wouldn’t notice at first glance. It’s a quieter kind of drama.

Working with both is where things get interesting. Solid brass meets translucent stone. Precision meets a bit of unpredictability. You can guide the process, but you can’t completely control it — and that’s part of the appeal.

A lot of our ideas come from simply paying attention: to natural formations, to textures, to the way light moves across a surface at different times of day. Those small observations tend to lead somewhere.

Every piece we design is really about that relationship — between material and light, structure and softness. The aim isn’t just to illuminate a space, but to give it a certain atmosphere. Something that feels considered, but never overworked.
